Jackson County Republicans open North Jackson County office
Open House at new office on January 23rd
The new North Jackson County GOP Office is located at 58 D Sunrise Park Dr. in Sylva. This office is the second GOP office opened for the 2012 election cycle. In the fall of 2011 the GOP group opened the South Jackson County located in the Laurel Terrace business complex on Highway 64 South in Cashiers.
"We want to make attending meetings and volunteering during this extremely important 2012 election cycle convenient and simple for voters who wish to participate," remarked GOP Chair Ralph Slaughter. "In fact", he continued, "we welcome all Republicans, unaffiliated voters and any others who wish to help elect conservative government candidates to local, state and national office." The Jackson County Republican's are holding an Open House event at the North Jackson County office from 3:00 pm until 5: 30 pm on Monday the 23rd of January. Interested Republicans and all voters are encouraged to please come by to see the office and meet some of the Jackson County GOP officers and Executive Board members. Opportunities for volunteer activities will be available. Throughout the election cycle Republican and Unaffiliated candidates and volunteers are welcome to use either or both the North and South Office as needed in support for all Republican and Unaffiliated Candidates. After the Office Open House on the 23rd, the GOP monthly meeting will be held at Ryan's in Sylva beginning at 6 PM to eat/7 PM to meet. Speakers are Mike Clampett, candidate for the NC Legislature seat presently held by Phil Haire and Kenny West who is candidate for Heath Shuler's seat in the US House of Representatives. Jackson County Commissioner Elders receives Golden Elephant award at Republican Banquet
Jackson County Commissioner Charles Elders was one of the Golden Elephant award winners at the Republican Biennial Golden Elephant Banquet held on Friday, November 11th at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center in Fletcher. The dinner honors Republicans who are the backbone of the Republican Party in the Eleventh Congressional District. "The trophies these individuals receive recognize that they have served the ideology, principles, and candidates of the Republican Party with dedication and diligence," explained David Sawyer the 11th District Chair and Master of Ceremonies for the event.
Charles Elders, serving a second term as a Jackson County Commissioner, is credited with a life-long record of Republican support and activity from the age of 18 when he helped pass out campaign literature and began his record of not missing voting in an election since his first vote in 1964. Highlights of Elders involvement include serving as one of Ronald Reagan's field staff workers for Western North Carolina . Subsequently he worked in notable campaigns for Senator Jesse Helms, Governors Jim Martin, Jim Holshouser and Lt. Governor Jim Gardiner. The award, given to one Republican from every county in the 11th Congressional District, was presented to each recipient by Representative Paul Stam who serves as the Majority Leader of the North Carolina House of Representatives. In an address to the group prior to the awards ceremony, Stam enumerated the accomplishments of Republicans in the 2011 legislative session covering fiscal, jobs, education and property rights legislation to family, immigration and healthcare issues. Local and state-wide Republicans attend Hoedown fundraiser
The Jackson County GOP held their first 2011 fundraiser “A Hoedown for the Showdown in 2012”, Saturday, June 25th at the Sawyer Family Farmstead in Glenville. The Hoedown theme played out in every aspect of the event from the menu to music, entertainment and décor. enjoyed mountain style vittles while listening to blue grass fiddlin’ and country tunes played by local musicians Bill and Jay Coward. Uncle Sam in his usual red, white and blue attire made a surprise but most welcome appearance.
Republicans from throughout Jackson County and surrounding counties attended as well as numerous elected and prominent statewide officials. Pat Mc Crory, a Charlotte North Carolina Republican who ran for Governor in 2008, and is a possible Republican candidate for governor in 2012, was the featured guest and speaker. Also in attendance were County Commissioners Doug Cody and Charles Elders; County Attorney Jay Coward; District 11 State Senator Jim Davis; Wayne King, NC GOP Vice Chair; Judge Donna Forga; Election Board member Cindy Thompson and former Florida Congressman Clay Shaw. Recap of the 2011 North Carolina Republican State Convention

I want to thank everyone who came to Wilmington and made this year’s North Carolina Republican State Convention a huge success!
We had 1161 registered delegates and over 1650 total attendees from 93 counties attend this year’s North Carolina Republican State Convention.
I am humbled to be re-elected as your Chairman for another two year and we have much work to do to ensure Barack Obama is a one-term President and Beverly Perdue is a one-term Governor. I also look forward to working with newly elected Vice Chairman Wayne King who won last Saturday’s election and also I would like to thank Tim Johnson for his service to the North Carolina Republican Party past, present and future. I surely will look for Tim’s leadership and guidance as we work towards growing our party and defeating President Obama and Governor Perdue. As the 2011 North Carolina Republican State Convention came to a close, I am appreciative by all of you who came up to me and the hard-working North Carolina Republican Party staff to let us know you were fired up and ready to get back to work to take back North Carolina. Make sure and save the date for next years convention the first weekend of June 2012 in Greensboro. It is sure to be just as successful! The next big day for your calendar is JULY 16th, 2011 for “TAKE BACK NC” DAY where you take what you learned at the State Convention at put it to work in your precinct. “Take Back NC” Day is a statewide day of action where you and your fellow Republicans in your precinct go knock on doors or make phone calls to engage and mobilize others in your precinct to get involved to work and take back North Carolina! Hoedown planned for June 25th
The Jackson County GOP has launched a Victory 2012 fundraising drive to finance campaign activities for the 2012 election cycle. “Republican success in the 2010 election is directly related to the support we were able to offer to our Republican and conservative candidates”, explains Ralph Slaughter GOP Chair. According to Vice Chair, Jim Mueller the funds raised in 2011 will enable election 2012 efforts that include campaign support offices in both Sylva and Cashiers to open in Spring of 2012 as well as the customary assistance to candidates. The Victory 2012 Fund-drive, underway since May 1st ,enlists key members of the Republican Club as chief fundraisers and will conclude with a celebration event, “A Hoedown for the Showdown in 2012”, to be held on June 25th at Tom Sawyers Farm in Glenville. Pat McCrory, prominent North Carolina Republican who ran for Governor in 2008, will be the event special guest. The Hoedown theme will be played out in every aspect of the event including music, entertainment and décor.
