We opened a recent newsletter by stating "By 'WE,' we mean You!" Consider that the theme of this newsletter. You are Asheville Tea Party. Without your help and participation, Asheville Tea Party cannot succeed.

Our constant struggle is finding enough volunteers to staff events and take leadership positions on projects. As an organization, we are missing opportunities to advance our values simply because very few people respond to the call for help.

With so many opportunities for activism crowding around us, and very few people stepping up as volunteers, we feel it necessary to state our circumstances clearly to our valued members. Our organization can only be as effective as our volunteers make it. If people choose to not participate, many opportunities will be missed.

Please consider volunteering to participate in or take the lead on one of the following activism opportunities.

Civitas Institute: Tea Party Summit West - Hickory

In North Carolina limited government and conservative/libertarian ideas do not have any chance to be heard in the General Assembly. We are the highest taxed state in our region. Our schools are failing. We can not get a vote to stop forced annexation, stop eminent domain abuse, limit spending, add more charter schools reduce taxes, and much more. This summit hopes to help channel the tea party energy towards some of these issues, while continuing to grow the movement even stronger.

Come to the Tea Party Summit West in Hickory, May 14-16. Hickory Metro Convention Center, Hickory, North Carolina

Cost for the 3-day event is just $99.00 and will include several meals. You may also purchase tickets on an event-by-event basis. Student pricing is also available.

"Take Back Our State Rally" in Raleigh

On May 12th at 11:00 AM, NCFreedom.us is organizing a statewide protest at the Legislative Building in Raleigh. This is the first day of the short session of the North Carolina General Assembly which starts at noon.

As of April 7th, eighteen states had filed lawsuits against the illegal mandate to nationalize health care. Help us become the next state to assert our Constitutionally guaranteed rights under the 10th amendment.

How can you help?
  • Come to Raleigh and help us surround the legislative building.
  • Tell your friends and neighbors to come join us: this may be the defining moment in the history of our state as to whether we will stand up for our future or go quietly into the night.
  • Bring a sign with an appropriate message to our legislators: put this bill on the floor for a vote NOW and vote YES.

The Asheville Tea Party will not be organizing transportation to this event but we encourage members to participate individually as they can.

ALERT: Asheville Tea Time Venue
Due to the popularity of Pack's Tavern during this, their opening week, we will resume our Friday Night Tea Time socials at Olive or Twist. Please join us at 6:00 on Fridays. We will discuss business items from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, with social time to follow.

Parking is available at HomeTrust Bank, across the street.
